A teacher externship is a paid 40-hour professional work experience that provides teachers direct experience in a business or industry work environment in southwest or south central Iowa. By exposing teachers to the authentic applications of what they teach, the externship enables them to develop a curriculum suited for project-based learning that reflects the world of work in the classroom. Ultimately, students benefit through powerful learning activities that prepare them for success in the modern workplace (21st Century Skills).
The externship will take place for five consecutive days (40 hours) throughout May 26-June 26, 2026. Once a participant has registered for the externship, GHAEA will contact the individual to coordinate the days/hours to be worked at a regional business/industry site of the participant’s selection. GHAEA will make one on-site visit to meet with the participant and host. Following the externship opportunity on-site location hours, all assignments shall be submitted electronically via this Google Form within one week of completing the experience or by June 26, 2026. (Whichever date comes first.)
Please Note: Participants are expected to complete the Externship Experience at one or no more than two businesses or industries. All host placements have to be approved by GHAEA.
